Flanders Man Says Robber Hit Him in the Head With Bat
Police say they were unable to substantiate the reports of a robbery.

A Flanders man was hospitalized on Monday afternoon after he told police was hit in the head by a robber in Riverhead, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Riverhead Town Police Department responded to 945 West Main Street in Riverhead shortly after 3:30 p.m. on a report of an man with a head laceration with initial reports that a possible robbery occurred, police said.
Jose D. Canel, 27, was found with the head laceration and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corp., according to police.

Canel said he was hit with a baseball bat and robbed of $300, RiverheadLocal reports.
Police were unable to substantiate the reports of a robbery.

The Detective Division is investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department 631-727-4500 ext. 289.
