Former LI Aide Used Elderly Client's EBT Card 17 Times: Police
She used the card fraudulently in a Smithtown store in 2020, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY —A former aide from Riverhead was arrested and charged after she used her elderly client's electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, card 17 times in 2020, police said.
According to Suffolk County Police, Shatia Parker, 30, an aide who advertised on Care.com, used her client's EBT card to make 17 unauthorized purchases at a grocery store in Smithtown between October 2020 and December 2020. The unauthorized transactions ranged between $37 and $193, police said.
A family member contacted police after noticing a discrepancy on receipts, police said.

Following an investigation by the Suffolk Count Police Department's fourth precinct crime section, Parker was arrested and charged with 17 counts of petty larceny, police said. She will arraigned on a later date, police said.
