NORTH FORK, NY — One lucky couple will soon be the recipient of a fairy tale North Fork wedding — free of charge.

Peconic Landing recently announced the 11th Annual Veterans Day Wedding Giveback, hosted at Brecknock Hall.

"The not-for-profit organization is currently seeking applicants for the annual contest, which provides a free wedding each year to current or former military personnel in recognition of their service, thanks to the commitment of local businesses and area volunteers," a release said.

The event began in 2011 as an opportunity to thank Long Island’s military personnel and recognize them for their service to our country. Sponsored by Peconic Landing, the giveaway is made possible through contributions from local businesses and organizations who give back to create an all-expenses-paid wedding for one lucky couple — with about $60,000 of goods and services donated.

Lieutenants Damen Weeks and Katherine Bertschi of Southold won the contest last year and celebrated their dream wedding at Brecknock Hall on November 13.

“The many vendors and most importantly the Peconic Landing Committee made our dream come true! Brecknock Hall was the perfect venue for our journey together to begin,” said Weeks. “We feel truly blessed and humbled to be selected for the Veterans Day Wedding Giveback and will never forget the hard work and coordination it took from everyone involved to make our wedding ceremony the unforgettable experience it was.”

This year’s winning couple will again be provided with a wedding free of charge, accommodating up to 82 guests and taking place on Sunday, November 12, 2023 in celebration of Veterans Day. The contest is open to both current and veteran service members; at least one partner must have served or be serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Applicants can click here to enter by April 15.

The winning couple will be chosen by a panel of Peconic Landing members with military ties, who judge the contest based on the number of years served, special military honors, and each couple’s personal love story. Couples must be available for a live or virtual interview to be considered for the giveback.

“This event holds a very special place in the hearts of our members and team members here at Peconic Landing,” said Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. “We are so proud to join together with our neighboring businesses on the East End to provide a dream wedding for those who have served our country.”
