GOP Sweeps Riverhead Town Elections

RIVERHEAD, NY — Incumbent Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar won the race to retain her seat as the GOP came out strong in Tuesday's election.

Aguiar, a Republican also running on the Conservative line, took the race handily, garnering 4,774 votes, or 59 percent, to Democrat Catherine Kent's 3,311 votes or 40.92 percent.

Republican candidate Michael Zaleski also won the race for Riverhead Town Highway Superintendent, winning 66.35 percent of the vote, compared to Democrat William Renten's 33.34 percent.

Republicans Kenneth Rothwell and Robert Kern swept the race for Riverhead Town council, with Rothwell garnering 31.54 percent of the vote and Kern, 30 percent; Democrat Evelyn J. Hobson-Womack had 20.96 percent of the vote and Democrat Juan Micieli-Martinez secured 17.42 percent.

Republican Laverne Tennenberg won the race for town assessor with 67.37 percent of the votes to Democrat Tara Taylor's 32.63 percent.

And GOP assessor candidate Dana Brown also won with 65.49 percent of the vote, compared to challenger and Democrat Ellen Hoil, who received 34.49 percent.
