Hometown Heroes Honored By School District
Student Taliyah Moor overcame adversity and recently earned a Transformative Educational Development Services AABLE Award, district says.
RIVERHEAD, NY — The Riverhead Central School District paid heartfelt tribute to two hometown heroes recently.
Recognized at a meeting of the board of education were PFC Garfield Langhorn. During a tribute, the Riverhead High School ROTC displayed a color guard in his honor and ROTC Captain Matthew Loughlin read a moving piece about the gallantry he displayed during the Vietnam War, district officials said. For his heroism, Langhorn was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Next, Riverhead High School student Taliyah Moore, who has overcome adversity and recently earned a Transformative Educational Development Services AABLE Award, was also recognized, the district said.

Moore volunteers at her local church, where she is involved in two choirs, and is a junior volunteer for Riverhead’s Butterfly Effect Project. The Riverhead CSD Board of Education presented her with a certificate of recognition for her hard work, the district added.
