Immigration, Through The Eyes Of Children
The third graders taught a lesson in what immigration means recently.

WADING RIVER, NY — Children put a human face on immigration recently.
Wading River Elementary School third-graders, who have been studying immigration in class, recently participated in their school’s annual, hands-on Immigration Day, the district said.
As part of the day, students, dressed as steerage passengers in period costumes, toted “luggage” onto a “ship” and then made their way through a series of inspection stations in the gymnasium, which was transformed into “Ellis Island.”

The kids carried documentation papers that were stamped by mock doctors and other “immigration” officials. At the end of the day, each student received full entry into the United States.
The event is a collaborative effort by faculty, parents and staff.
