Kids Raise $8K For Charity By Jumping Rope

The goal was to improve the kids' heart health as part of a student council fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Jump rope, anyone?

The popular kids' game had students exercising for a good cause recently: Students at Riverhead Central School District's Riley Avenue Elementary School raised $8,000 with "Jump Rope For Heart."

The goal was to improve the kids' heart health as part of a student council fundraiser for the American Heart Association. The students raised $8,000 in sponsorships to participate in a variety of jumping activities during their gym periods on April 18; all of the activities were run by members of the school’s student council, the district said.

Leading up to the event, the students learned about heart health and ways they can make a difference in the lives of those with heart conditions, the district added.
