Lane Closures, Shifts to Begin On Tuesday on Route 27 in East Hampton

The short duration closures will also take place on Route 27 in Southampton.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — Roadwork is set to begin in East Hampton and Southampton Tuesday, causing short duration lane closures, alternating traffic and lane shifts, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The lane closures, single travel lanes and lane shifts may be in effect at 30 different locations on New York Ste Route 114 in East Hampton and Route 27 in Southampton between the off-peak hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the NYS DOT said in a release.

Crews will be performing inspection and cleaning of storm drains to maintain the integrity of the roadway drainage system and sustain storm water run-off to preserve the safety of motorists, a release said. Wherever possible a single travel lane in each direction will be maintained. Where the roadway is too narrow to safely accommodate both eastbound and westbound traffic around the drainage operation, a single travel lane will remain open with one-way, alternating eastbound and westbound traffic flow in effect.

The road work weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather, the NYS DOT said.

Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these lane closures and shifts. Drivers are reminded these are short term closures and any sluggish traffic should dissipate fairly quickly. The work is being scheduled during off-peak daytime hours when traffic volumes are significantly reduced in order to minimize the impact on residents and Long Island motorists, the NYS DOT said.
