LI Man Dies After Kayak Flips; Boy, 8, Saved: Police
A bystander was able to save the little boy but the man could not be saved, police say.
NORTHAMPTON, NY — A man died after his kayak overturned Saturday in Wildwood Lake in Northampton, police said. An 8-year-old boy who was also in the kayak was rescued, authorities said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 4:45 p.m. A bystander called police after seeing Adalfo Castro, 35, of Mastic, and the child overturn in the kayak, police said.
The bystander was in a boat and able to pull the eight-year-old boy from the water but could not reach the adult, police said.

Southampton Town Police patrol and marine units responded, along with Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance. The Riverhead Fire Department responded and was able to pull the man out of the water and perform CPR, police said.
Castro was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
