LongHouse Amphitheater Dedicated To Edward Albee: Photos
Mercedes Ruehl and Harris Yulin performed a scene from Edwarad Albee's classic "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."
EAST HAMPTON, NY — A legend in theater was celebrated as the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, celebrating its 27th season opening, combined the event with a special ceremony dedicating the LongHouse Amphitheater to playwright Edward Albee, whose 90th birthday would also have been on Saturday.
A record crowd of 511 attendees roamed the 16 acre reserve and sculpture garden in perfect weather.
In the Amphitheater, actress Jane Alexander spoke about her meetings with Albee, and LongHouse founder Jack Lenor Larsen shared the story of their lifelong close friendship. LongHouse Executive Director Matko Tomicic introduced the grand finale — Mercedes Ruehl and Harris Yulin, who gave an animated performance of a scene from Albee's classic "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."
