Man Arrested After Stolen Car Discovered at 7-Eleven: Police

He was arrested a second time after he tried to steal ATVs on the same night at a local car dealership, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY— A Riverhead man was arrested Saturday after a vehicle that was previously reported stolen was found at a 7-Eleven, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, on Saturday at 2:40 a.m., the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department notified the RPD that they had found a 2008 Honda Ridgeline at the West Main Street 7-Eleven that had been reported stolen on Friday.

Jeffrey Edsall, 51, was arrested and charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of criminal property and second-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, both felonies, police said.

Later on Saturday, Riverhead Police responded to Honda of Riverhead on Pulaski Street after a report came in about suspicious people having been at the location at 2 a.m., authorities said. Two people reportedly climbed over the fence around the property and tried to remove various all-terrain vehicles, police said.

Further investigation led to Edsall also being arrested in relations to the Honda of Riverhead incident, police said. He was also charged with one count of third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor; the investigation into that incident is ongoing and further charges are expected, police said.
