Man Arrested After Trying To Rob Riverhead Store At Gunpoint: PD

He was arrested Tuesday night after a foot pursuit, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested Tuesday after attempting to rob a Riverhead store at gunpoint last week, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, at 6:19 p.m. Tuesday, a patrol officer in the area of Hamilton Avenue saw Edmond Reed, 54, of Riverhead; he was wanted on an active New York State parole warrant, police said.

After a foot pursuit, Reed was arrested and transported to Riverhead Town police headquarters, authorities said.

While in custody, Reed was interviewed by the Riverhead Town Police Department's detective squad as a suspect in a prior attempted robbery at gunpoint that occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on January 15 at International Connection on Osborn Avenue, police said.

Reed was placed under arrest and charged with first-degree attempted robbery, police said.

He was held at Riverhead Town police headquarters to await arraignment at Riverhead Justice Court.
