Man Burglarized Riverhead Laundromat, Stole $1,000: Police

He entered the business prior to closing and hid inside, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested and charged early Wednesday for burglarizing a Riverhead laundromat in April, police said.

The owner of the Peconic Landromat, located on East Main Street, reported the burglary on April 22, Riverhead Town police said.

A man entered the laundromat prior to closing and hid inside; after the laundromat closed, he left his hiding place, stole about $1,000 in cash and exited out of the rear door, police said.

The burglary was captured on surveillance video; the owner was familiar with the man from prior interactions with him at the laundromat, police said.

Jose Rivera-Martinez, 29, who is without a known address, was arrested at 8 a.m. Wednesday, charged with third-degree burglary, processed, and held for arraignment, police said.
