Man Caught Trying To Burglarize Riverhead Store: Police

He was arrested Friday night, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested Friday night after he tried to burglarize a store, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, an alarm was activated at 10:49 p.m. at European Foods, located on Old Country Road. Officers were dispatched and saw a man walking away from the front door, where the glass had broken, police said.

Jose Montes-Fuentes, 21, was arrested and charged with one count of third-degree criminal mischief and one count of third-degree attempted burglary, police said.

During processing, Montes-Fuentes was found to have an active arrest warrant from Riverhead Justice Court on a prior, unrelated matter; he was held overnight pending arraignment, police said.
