Man Charged With DWI Had Boy, 5, In His Vehicle: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Calverton man was arrested Monday night in Riverhead after he was caught driving while intoxicated with a 5-year-old boy in his vehicle, police said.

Jose Ardon Lopez, 31, who was driving a 2021 Toyota 4Runner, was arrested on W. Main Street at 6:06 p.m. after an officer conducted a traffic stop and determined that he was intoxicated with the child in the vehicle, Riverhead Town police said.

Ardon Lopez was arrested, taken to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing, and charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He was held overnight for morning arraignment, police said.
