Man Dies In Fiery Crash On LI: Police

The vehicle hit a utility pole and caught fire, police say.

MORICHES, NY — A man died in a Moriches crash early Friday morning, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the single-car crash took place at 1:01 a.m. on Montauk Highway. A man was driving a 2018 Jeep westbound on Montauk Highway when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole; upon impact, the vehicle caught fire, police said.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Mastic EMS officer, police said.
