Man Faces Additional Charges in Riverside, Flanders Car Break-In: Police

The man was arrested last month after he was caught stealing from a local 7-Eleven, police say.

A man previously arrested in connection to multiple car break-ins in Riverside and Flanders after he was caught stealing food from a Riverside deli last month was hit with additional charges for the break-ins on Wednesday, according to Southampton Town Police.

In the course of continuing the investigations into the Riverside and Flanders car break-ins, Southampton Town Police and detectives arrested Anthony Jenkins, 50, on Wednesday at about 9:30 a.m.

He was charged with four counts of petty larceny and two counts of criminal mischief (one misdemeanor and one felony) for stealing money out of the cars and damaging them, according to police.

He was also charged with a petty larceny from 7-Eleven in Flanders for stealing $50 worth of personal grooming items such as soap and deodorant, police said.

Jenkins was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court where the magistrate remanded him to jail in lieu of $22,500 bail.

On Wednesday around 11:15 p.m., police also got a call of a “suspicious male” casing cars by June Avenue in Flanders.

After investigating, police arrested Shawn Daray James, 28, of Flanders, for seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

He was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court where the magistrate remanded him to Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

A Riverside man was charged with multiple car break-ins in Riverside and Flanders after he was caught stealing food from a Riverside deli on Friday, according to Southampton Town Police.

Police arrested Anthony Jenkins, 50, for petty larceny after was caught stealing soup and hot dogs from Marta’s Deli in Riverside, police said.

He was then found to be involved in several car break-ins in the Riverside and Flanders area and was additionally charged with three counts of petty larceny and two counts of criminal mischief, police said.

Jenkins smashed the windows of the cars on Riverside Avenue, Flanders Road, Brookhaven Avenue, and Albany Avenue and stole money within the cars, according to police.

He was held overnight at police headquarters.
