Man's Body Found In Wooded Riverhead Tent Encampment

No foul play was immediately suspected, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Police discovered the body of a man in a wooded Riverhead tent encampment Friday, police said.

At 1:36 p.m, a call came in about an "unconscious and unresponsive" man in the encampment, within the wooded area south of East Main Street and the nearby Long Island Rail Road tracks, police said, adding that it was unclear how he had died.

He was identified as Gregory Mack, 37, of Riverhead and previously of North Babylon, police said.

Riverhead police detectives and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office responded, police said. No foul play was immediately suspected but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
