Miloski's Poultry Farm: 65 Years of Thanksgiving Tradition

The farm also sells "exotic" fare including alligator and camel burgers.

As families gather together to prepare for Thanksgiving, for many, the celebration centers on one thing: the bird.

Yes, Thanksgiving is a day of thanks and counting blessings, but it's also named Turkey Day for a reason.

And for many families, the Thanksgiving bird means Miloski's Poultry Farm in Calverton.

In business for 65 years, a visit to the farm has become a family tradition for many generations, owner Jean Miloski said.

This year, 4000 turkeys were sold, she added.

With most of her business made up of repeat customers, Miloski said a visit to the farm becomes a "whole East End outing," including visits to Briermere Farms and local farmstands.

In addition to turkeys, duck and chickens, the farm also sells "exotics," including buffalo meat, alligator, and camel burgers.

And then there are traditional Polish favorites including babka, kielbasa, and pierogi.

The most popular sized birds, Miloski said, are the 11 and 12 pound turkeys, as well as the 30 to 34 pound gobblers.

All of their turkeys, she said, are free range, and raised on feed that's free of steroids and antibiotics.

"Anyone who's driven by has seen them," she said.

For those who need a little help in the gravy department, Miloski's also sells gravy to go along with the Thanksgiving feast.

For Miloski, the business brings rewards. "We work hard all year and the final product is Thanksgiving and Christmas," she said. Her husband Mark is able to work with their son Mark — just as her husband worked with his father before him in the family endeavor.

The whole Miloski family takes pride in keeping farming alive in Riverhead.

Located at 4418 Middle Country Road in Calverton, Miloski's Poultry Farm has birds in a variety of sizes this Thanksgiving. The birds are $4.55 per pound, 10-30 lbs. and can be purchased every day this week from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. The business only accepts cash for bird purchases. To place an order, call 631-727-0239.
