Motorcyclist Airlifted After Crash: Police

The crash took place Sunday afternoon, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY — A motorcyclist was airlifted after a Wading River crash Sunday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a collision between the motorcycle and a car took place at 1:27 p.m. on Route 25A near the King Kullen shopping plaza.

The car had pulled out of the King Kullen shopping center to head west when it was struck on the driver’s side by an eastbound motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist, Alex Michaelson, 19, of Shoreham, was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries; the driver of the car, Margaret Lamura, 69, of Shoreham, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with a minor medical condition, police said.

The New York State Police accident reconstruction team responded to the scene and is assisting Riverhead detectives with the investigation; both the car and motorcycle were impounded for safety checks, police said.
