Pair, Including Teen, Charged With Stealing Car After LI Collision: PD

The 2, from the Bronx, were arrested in Calverton Monday, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two people were caught after stealing a car and then trying to flee after a Calverton collision Monday, police said.

The incident took place at 5:15 p.m. when Riverhead Police officers saw someone driving a gray, four-door 2018 Honda Accord "in a suspicious manner" on Riley Ave. with the headlights off, authorities said.

The driver fled when an officer tried to stop the vehicle, then traveled a short distance and collided into a dirt embankment on Edwards Ave. in Calverton; two people fled the vehicle, police said.

The pair were located a short distance away, arrested and taken to Riverhead Police headquarters, authorities said. Police later learned that the car was stolen and proceeds from a larceny that had taken place in the Calverton area were found inside, police said.

Anthony A. Brown, 21, and a 17-year-old were both arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; both were released on appearance tickets, police said.
