Peconic Bay Medical Center Receives A "C" On Hospital Report Card
""Whether we agree or disagree with the methodology used for one report card over another, we take hospital report cards seriously."

RIVERHEAD, NY — Peconic Bay Medical Center received a "C" grade in hospital safety, according to The Leapfrog Group, which explains that its rating system is focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
The hospital safety grades are released by the nonprofit group twice a year, in the spring and in the fall. In the most recent report, only three hospitals on Long Island received an "A".
A representative for the hospital discussed the report with Patch: "All Northwell Health hospitals are transparent in sharing quality and performance information with the public. Whenever information contained in the various 'hospital report cards' identifies a potential quality issue, the public can be assured that we are already aware of it and working aggressively to resolve it. We do this routinely as part of our ongoing internal operations and analysis (no matter how high our grades may be), so that we can provide the best patient experience possible," Samantha Vigliotta, vice president of Foundation and external affairs for PBMC, said.

"Whether we agree or disagree with the methodology used for one report card over another, we take hospital report cards seriously and use them for their intended purpose — to improve the quality of care to our patients," she said. "Because the data is frequently from prior years, we have already identified those areas that may need improvement and implemented programs to improve the performance where it is needed. As always, we continue to work hard, pay attention to detail and be vigilant about patient safety and satisfaction."
Maine, Utah, Virginia, Oregon and North Carolina had the highest percentage of hospitals that received an A grade. Three states — Wyoming, Alaska and North Dakota — did not have a single hospital that received an A grade.
