Pedestrian Hit By Pickup Truck on Route 58: Police

BREAKING: The man was airlifted for treatment of his injuries, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was struck by a pickup truck on Route 58 Thursday morning, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Joseph Mannino, 47, who was crossing Route 58 and heading south, was hit at 9:12 a.m. just west of Ostrander Avenue.

He was struck by a 2012 GMC pickup truck driven west by Albert L. Pertillar, 61, of Riverhead, police said.

Mannino was treated by Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County Aviation, where he was treated for "serious but non-life threatening injuries," police said.

The Riverhead Police Detective Division is investigating the incident with the assistance of the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a vehicle safety check, police said.
