Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured In Jamesport: PD

The incident took place early Monday, police say.

JAMESPORT, NY — A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured on Sound Avenue in Jamesport early Monday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, a 911 call came in at 1:45 a.m. about the pedestrian being hit just west of Pier Avenue.

The caller, who had been driving a 2004 Ford pickup, reported that he struck a pedestrian at that location, police said.

Responding units provided lifesaving aid to a 30-year-old Riverhead man who was seriously injured, police said. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.

Riverhead detectives and the New York State Police were requested at the scene; an investigation revealed that the driver was traveling east on Sound Avenue when he struck a pedestrian who was in the travel portion of the roadway, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene; the incident is not considered criminal, police said.

The name of the pedestrian involved is being withheld pending notification to next of kin, police said.
