Philanthropist Donates $1 Million To Peconic Bay Medical Center
The funding will be used to expand the emergency department, PBMC says.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A retired obstetrician and philanthropist has donated $1 million toward the Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation's emergency department.
The donation, from Dr. Stanley Zinberg, a retired obstetrician and gynecologist, will be used for a dedicated space for critical care and trauma needs within the emergency department — the first step in the upcoming phased expansion and renovation of the existing facility, hospital officials said.
“Dr. Stanley Zinberg’s amazing donation will transform emergency medical care on the East End, and will further improve the quality of care we offer to thousands of patients every year,” said Lincoln Cox, MD, chief of emergency medicine at PBMC.

The emergency department expansion will add new treatment areas, including the Zinberg Family Critical Care & Trauma Unit, which can accommodate multiple patients simultaneously in its trauma resuscitation room. The expansion will serve to increase capacity and streamline operations, hospital officials said.
The East End of Long Island is seeing a "dramatic population increase" in residents from areas including New York City, so Peconic Bay Medical Center’s ED expansion is critical, hospital officials said.

PBMC provides access to emergency services including life-saving trauma, stroke, and cardiac services to more than 250,000 eastern Suffolk County residents. Integrated with the resources of the Northwell Health system, the center also includes access to advanced life-saving capabilities, including onsite emergency ultrasound and radiology services, the Kanas Regional Heart Center, a Level III Trauma Center, a New York State-designated stroke center and SkyHealth emergency helicopter services.
“The demand for emergency room services is on the rise, as emergency departments are essential to saving lives. Having exceptional ER services is the most important part of hospital care,” said Dr. Zinberg. “I have always recognized just how important Peconic Bay Medical Center is to Suffolk County, and I hope my donation helps to make their exceptional care even better.”
