Police: Car Accident Results In Death of Calverton Woman

An 80-year-old Calverton woman died from injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Sound Avenue and Fresh Pond Avenue in Calverton, last Thursday, Sept. 18 at 11:17 a.m. according to Riverhead police.

A 2007 Honda CRV was driving westbound on Sound Avenue when the driver attempted to turn left onto Fresh Pond Avenue and collided with a 2011 Audi driving eastbound on Sound Avenue, according to police.

The driver of the Honda, Alfred Ekberg, 79, of Calverton, and his passenger, Roberta Ekberg, 80, of Calverton, were taken to Stony Brook Medical Hospital for injuries sustained during the accident.

The operator of the Audi, Jeanette Kuzma, 58, of Shoreham, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for injuries she sustained during the accident.

Roberta died several days later at Stony Brook Medical Center, according to police.

Riverhead Police are still investigating the incident and ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Riverhead Detectives at 631-727-4500 ext. 633.
