Police: Man Accidentally Shot in Leg at Calverton Sportsmen Club
The incident occurred on Sunday morning.

A man was hospitalized after he was shot in the leg at a Calverton sportsmen club on Sunday morning, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police received a call from Suffolk County Fire Rescue reporting a man was the victim of a gunshot to the leg at the Peconic River Sportsman Club on 389 River Road at about 10:23 a.m.
When the police and the Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance arrived, they found a 63-year-old man in a hunting blind within the confines of the club property with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, police said.

Ambulance personnel treated the man at the scene and he was then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police Medi-vac Helicopter for further medical care, according to police.
The Riverhead Detective Division and an officer from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene and conducted an investigation into the incident.

They found that an 82-year-old male club member accidentally discharged his gun while attempting to unload the gun in the hunting blind, police said.
The shooting was accidental in nature and no criminality is suspected in the reported incident, according to police.
Both the victim and the identified shooter are long time members of the Peconic River Sportsman Club, police said.
The injury received by the man is not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
