Police: Man Arrested for Petty Larceny in Riverhead

Police apprehended the subject who fled on foot after stealing cigarettes and a CD from a vehicle.

Riverhead Police arrested Anthony Jenkins, 49, on Wednesday after a woman on East Main Street in Riverhead flagged down a member of the Riverhead Police Department at 5:09 a.m. reporting a possible larceny in progress, according to police.

The woman indicated a black male subject entered her neighbor’s vehicle and he was still in the vehicle. Upon police arrival, Jenkins fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away hiding in the bushes next to the residence.

Jenkins was arrested and charged with petty larceny after it was learned that he stole cigarettes and a music CD from the vehicle, according to police.

He was transported to Riverhead Police Department where he was processed and held for arraignment.
