Here are the top stories in Riverhead today:

  1. Rev. Bohdan Hedz of the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church is organizing a collection drive for family and the people of Ukraine. Right now, they can only send medical supplies and need money to send it overseas. "Mass is being held daily at the church, at 820 Pond View Road, every day at 9 a.m. Donations of medicine, and also monetary contributions, can be sent to that address," Hedz said. (Riverhead Patch)
  2. In response to the unfortunate incident of a 4-year-olds' death, online court documents stated that "Amy Wesolowski, 34, was indicted and charged on March 15 by a Suffolk County grand jury on one count of felony manslaughter, child passenger killed; one count of felony aggravated DWI with a child, or Leandra's Law, first offense; one count of driving while ability impaired by drugs; a misdemeanor; one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; and one count of third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor." (Riverhead Patch)
  3. On April 5 the Calverton Restoration Advisory Board will hold its first meeting, both in person and virtually, at the Manorville Fire Department at 6:15 p.m. "Representatives of the Navy will provide an update on the biosparge system at the Site 7 Fuel Depot and the anomaly area of trichloroethylene, a chemical compound commonly used in industrial solvents, at the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, according to the agenda for the meeting." (RiverheadLOCAL)
  4. Veronica Pezdan, a 28-year-old former Shoreham/Wading River High School teacher, admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student for a two-month span last year. Pezsan was sentenced by Suffolk County Judge Steven Pilewski to 10 years of probation after she pleaded guilty in December to a charge of third-degree rape. Ten other counts were dropped in exchange for her plea. (Dan's Papers)
  5. Lauren Pazienza, 26, a Long Island events coordinator, has handed herself into police for the death of an 86-year-old vocal coach, Barbara Maier Gustern. On March 10, Gustern was shoved from behind and she hit her head on the sidewalk during the attack. Gustern died five days later, the NYPD said. (Subscription: Newsday)
