Riverhead Central School District announced that Cadet Brianne Corwin has received the Navy ROTC Scholarship as a result of being selected by the Navy Recruiting District Commander through the Immediate Scholarship Reservation (ISR) selection process.
Corwin, a senior at Riverhead High School, was handpicked by Commander David Byrd, and was recently notified by him during a follow-up interview that she was one of six applicants he selected within his district.

There is a cap on the scholarship, but it normally covers the full cost of the university costs.
“I am thrilled for Brianne and very proud of her accomplishments,” Chris Martin, Corwin’s Guidance Counselor said. “She really earned this. It is rare for me to see a student work so hard to achieve and improve her self. I am very proud of her.”

Currently, Corwin is in the top 6% of her class and is a member of the SADD Club, the Key Club, the National Honor Society, the Varsity Winter Track and Field Team, the Girls’ Golf Team, and was on the Tennis Team.
She also participates in the MSG Varsity Club (photography, videography and journalism).
She is an AP Scholar and Honors student and has received the Rotary Youth Leadership (RYLA) Awards (2013-2015).
Corwin has held various leadership positions within ROTC unit and is currently the Executive Officer of the RHS NJRTOC Unit.
She is also the Commander of the Personnel Inspection Team and the Commander of the Air Rifle Team (2013-2015).
Community service experience is an important part of Corwin’s life.
She has been very active with Rotary Club activities (assembling food baskets and participating in fundraisers), as well as a number of other activities associated with the NJROTC Unit.
Corwin and her family also participated in clean up activities at the Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch, and she is active at the First Congregational Church of Riverhead.
“I have participated in many community service activities, allowing me to connect with lots of different people, especially through my NJROTC unit,” Corwin said. “It’s important to me to pursue a career where I’m helping other people. With the NROTC program.”
Cadet Corwin has been accepted to several colleges (Fordham University, Stony Brook University, Pace University, Drexel University, SUNY Binghamton, and others).
She is awaiting acceptance from her preferred college, the University of Florida. She plans to study Materials Science and Engineering.
“I hope to earn a degree in Materials Science and Engineering that will allow me to work with technologies that protect and aid our country and citizens of other nations,” she said.
