Riverhead Man Charged With Felony Gun Possession After Crash: PD

He was intoxicated and had an illegal, loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested after he was found driving while intoxicated with a loaded handgun after a North Hempstead crash Sunday, police said.

According to New York State Police, the incident took place at 4:24 a.m. in the eastbound lane of the Northern State Parkway, west of Exit 28 in Nassau County.

Steven Reid, 25, was found to be intoxicated and in possession of an illegal, loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine, police said. Reid was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a felony; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator; and driving while intoxicated, police said.

He was arraigned on Monday at Nassau 1County First District Court, police said.
