Riverhead Robotics Team Competes In World Championship

The VEX Robotics World Championship, in its 10th year, brings together the top 1,400 student-led robotics teams from around the world.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead High School students are representing on an international canvas as the Robotics Team competes in a world championship this week.

Two Riverhead High School robotics teams competed in the Southern NY State Championship, and one of the two teams won the title of “Tournament Champions” — a title that was shared with Farmingdale and New Field.

That same Riverhead High School team also won the “Judges Award," a release from the district said.

Their designation as tournament champions earned the kids $50 gift certificates from iDesign Solutions, a vendor for VEX parts — and qualified them to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship Competition in Louisville, KY.

Members of the "Tournament Champions" team include Connor Batjer, Eric Behr, Hosea Blancarte, Alec Buczynski, Kyler Driscoll, Brandon Escobar, and Quint Nigro, as well as technology teacher and robotics team coach Luke Ferland, director of mathematics Robert Brandi, and an adult sponsor.
