Road Closed In Riverhead Due To Fire Hydrant Being Struck: Police
The incident caused flooding and a partial collapse of the roadway, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A portion of Old County Road in Riverhead was closed Saturday due to a fire hydrant being struck, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, Old Country Road will be closed eastbound from Ostrander Avenue to Oliver Street for an "extended period." The fire hydrant being struck led to flooding and a partial collapse of the roadway, police said.
Riverhead Town police and the water department were at the scene. Access to the shopping center at 739 Old Country Road is available from Oliver Street and Ostrander Avenue, police said.
