Drunk Driver Injured After Crash Sends Van Careening Into Hampton Bays Home: Police

The collision drove the van through the garage doors into the family room of a Hampton Bays home, police said. No one in the home was hurt.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY- A Hampton Bays man was injured after he allegedly drove drunk, causing an accident that sent a parked van careening into a family’s home, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the accident took place on Gardenia Avenue s at 2:28 a.m. Friday.

Alfred Glass, 40, was driving a 2002 Jeep southbound on Wakeman Road when he left the roadway and collided with a parked 2008 Chevrolet van that was in the driveway of a residence, police said.

The collision drove the van through the garage doors into the family room of the residence; the home was occupied but no one was injured, police said.

Glass was transported to Southampton Hospital by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance; he was treated and released. He was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and processed at Southampton Town Police Headquarters. He was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail.
