Shopper Knocked Down, Robbed At Knifepoint In Parking Lot: Cops

A man rushed him, knocked him to the ground, and demanded money at knifepoint in broad daylight, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was robbed at knifepoint in the Home Depot parking lot in Riverhead Saturday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, on Sunday at 5:59 p.m., police received a call at 5:59 p.m. from a man in the parking lot on Old Country Road who said an unknown man had rushed him, knocked him to the ground, displayed a knife and demanded money.

After displaying the knife and demanding money from the man, the thief fled on foot to a vehicle parked nearby, police said. The man was able to record the license plate of the vehicle and called 911 to report the incident, police said.

Riverhead Police Department patrol units responded and found the man and the involved vehicle at his residence nearby in Riverhead, police said.

The thief was identified shortly thereafter by the man who'd been robbed and taken into police custody, authorities said.

Able Tsang, 59, was arrested and charged with one count of first degree attempted robbery, police said. Tsang was processed and held at Riverhead Police headquarters for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court Monday morning, police said.
