'Suspicious' Fire Breaks Out At Former Toys 'R' Us Building: Cops

RIVERHEAD, NY — A "suspicious" fire broke out at the vacant Toys "R" Us Building in Riverhead Monday morning, police said.

At 8:16 a.m., the Riverhead Police Department received a report regarding the fire at 1151 Old Country Rd.; officers responded and found that a fire had broken out at the rear of the structure, police said. The Riverhead Fire Department was notified, responded, and extinguished the fire, police said.

Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, detectives were asked to respond, along with the Suffolk County police arson squad and the Riverhead fire marshals office, to assist in the investigation, police said.
