Riverhead Schools to Welcome World-Renown Scientist

Dr. Marshall Jones, a 1960 graduate of Riverhead High School, is the holder of 49 U.S. Patents and 31 foreign patents.

A world-renown mechanical engineer and scientist who also happens to be a graduate of Riverhead High School will be in town this week and early next week to share his inspirational story of hard work and achievement with students at is his various alma maters, including Aquebogue Elementary School.

Dr. Marshall G. Jones, who grew up on a duck farm in Aquebogue and went on to become a recognized pioneer in fiber optics and laser technology, will address all fourth grade students in the Riverhead Central School District in an assembly on Friday in the high school auditorium. Later that morning he will drop in on a number of high school classes, and on Monday will give a series of talks at Riverhead Middle School.

After graduating in 1960 from Riverhead High School, Marshall earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Massachusetts and a master of science degree and doctorate from the University of Michigan.

Working most of his career for General Electric, Marshall holds 49 U.S. Patents and 31 foreign patents. With scientific writings appearing in pretigious publications over the years, he is also the author of "Never Give Up – the Marshall Jones Story."

According to a press release from the Riverhead Central School District, Marshall, in his various school appearances, "will deliver his message of hope and the importance of persistently following one's dreams and aspirations."
