Bar Owners Blame Victim For Ex-Police Officer's Fatal Crash

A lawsuit was filed last year naming the ex-cop and three bars as responsible for the Dobbs Ferry man's death.

DOBBS FERRY, NY — The owners of a bar said the Dobbs Ferry man killed in a drunken-driving crash caused by a former New Rochelle police officer is to blame for his own death. Lawyers for the owners of The Celtic Corner in Dobbs Ferry said they were not responsible for the death of Isaac Ward Jan. 2, 2017.

A lawsuit filed last year by Ward’s family also named former cop Harry Kyreakedes as negligent in Isaac Ward’s death as well as two other bars, the Journal News said.

Kyreakedes, 28, of Dobbs Ferry, was sentenced Jan. 5, 2018, to up to 7-1/2 years in state prison for the crash that resulted in the death of Ward, 27, also of Dobbs Ferry.

The former police officer had pleaded guilty in October 2017 to first-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, and aggravated driving while intoxicated per se, a misdemeanor.

Kyreakedes, who was off-duty, and Ward, along with two other friends, were out drinking the evening of Jan. 1, 2017. Around 3 a.m. Jan. 2, 2017 the four men left a White Plains bar and got in separate cars.

Kyreakedes crashed his SUV into a parking meter, stop sign and a tree in front of the CVS at 325 Mamaroneck Ave.

Ward was seriously injured and was taken to White Plains Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After having to be extricated from his car, Kyreakedes was taken to the hospital where samples of his blood were obtained. At the time of the crash, his blood alcohol content was more than 0.18 percent.
