In Dobbs Ferry, New Shops 'Coming Soon'—So When is 'Soon'?
Two Dobbs Ferry storefronts have touted 'coming soon' signs for a while. So when are they actually, you know, opening for business?
Who better to answer the question of when new businesses will actually open than a municipality's building inspector?
While Dobbs Ferry's Brian Cook can't say for sure when doors will open, pastries served or hot "dawgs" relished, he can say for sure how close their owners are to complying with village codes.
Lidia's Bake Shop and Cafe, for example, located next to on Main Street, took out a permit in Oct., 2010, Cook said.

"Since then, I've heard not a thing," Cook said. The permit expired two months ago.
(Editor's note: the owner is a resident and I've heard through the hyper-local grapevine that her authentic German Stollen Bread is to die for...well worth the wait!)

You may also have noticed "Coming Soon" signs for Dobbs Dawg House at 25 Cedar Street. According to Cook, the owners came to the village building department on Monday, applying for a change to the storefront's hood and some internal alterations. Cook said the ball is now in the owners' court and they can open within the next few weeks.
The owners are Dobbs Ferry natives. Today I even ran into co-owner Michael Hambone while he was enjoying a ridiculously decadent pannini (complete with Nutella, peanut butter and some other things that made the grill barely close...) ata few doors down.
He's thrilled to talk about the upcoming business, and even willing to disclose some of the more creative hot dog combinations he and his business partners have devised.
Check Patch later this week for an interview with Hambone. But for now, check for updates on their website.
So, if you could create the ideal hot dog, what would it be? Maybe it'll make the Dobbs Dawg House menu!
