Shows are on Friday, Nov. 18 and Sat. Nov. 19.

Dobbs Ferry Middle School students will be performing the magical musical Alice in Wonderland, based on the 1951 Walt Disney Pictures animated feature and box-office smash. Both the movie and show are based on Lewis Carroll’s books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with a few additional elements from Through the Looking-Glass. The show is scheduled for Friday, November 18th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, November 19th at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the Middle School/High School Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults, $8 for students and free for senior citizens. Advance tickets are available through Payschools at a discount.
This specific production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland is the Broadway Junior version and is specifically geared for middle school students. It is a one-hour, fast-paced stage adaptation of the show featuring updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as “I’m Late!,” “The Unbirthday Song,” and “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.” Children and adults alike will enjoy Alice’s madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!

“The show, which is performed in one act, comes packaged with scripts, choreography, musical accompaniment, performance rights and is edited for middle school voices and content from Musical Theatre International (MTI),” said Michele Johnson, Dobbs Ferry Middle School music teacher and the musical director. “I actually vetted 15 shows, but this one had the most speaking roles, was gender neutral and vocally within the students’ abilities. In the past we’ve done a musical every other year at the Middle School, but this pre-packaged format makes it much easier to produce a show every year.”
This is the first Middle School performance to debut in the newly refurbished auditorium. An ensemble of 36 students in 6th through 8th grade and a student-run stage crew of 20, that also includes an assist from the Middle School Art Club and new High School Theater Class, rounds out the production. In addition, seniors Morgan Wisniewski and Brendan Wortner are the Assistant Director and the Lighting Director respectively. Bridget Gibson is back as Assistant Stage Manager and training an entirely new backstage crew. The show will include a brief intermission.
