Dobbs Ferry High School students open their theatre season on a whimsical note with the light comedy All Because Of Agatha, to be performed this weekend on Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. The play will be presented in three acts and refreshments will be sold during the intermission, with proceeds going to the Senior Prom Fund. Although the play was written in the 1960s (by Jonathan Troy), it has been a long-standing favorite of community theatre groups and college and high school drama clubs because the action can easily take place in present-day.
One major set is used throughout the entire play, and there are nine cast members in the script, comprising students in grades 9-12. The premise of the show surrounds a young married couple who buys a haunted house in Salem, Massachusetts, hires a sassy housekeeper from Brooklyn, then plans a party for the one night of the year that the ghost (a murdered witch) is reputed to show up. The assembled guests include a man-chasing Californian, an elderly neighbor who thinks she's a medium, and a sardonic reporter. As is the case in most comedies, things go hilariously wrong only to somehow miraculously work out in the end.

"If you're looking for a silly diversion this weekend, this comedy is just right for the holiday season," said Michele Johnson, the play's director and High School/Middle School music teacher. "The kids give a great performance and the show will keep audiences laughing. It's not highbrow theatre, but it promises to be a fun event and will lift everyone's spirits."
Prior to Saturday's evening performance, the High School is also hosting a senior citizen's reception at 6 p.m. in the High School cafeteria. Students will be serving coffee and dessert before the curtain goes up. Tickets for the performance are free for seniors, $10 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
