Celebrate a local legend! The Dobbs Ferry Public Library Presents“Washington Irving: Citizen of the World,” a  special screening of a film-in-progress. Meet the filmmaker, Karen Kelleher, a Dobbs Ferry resident and learn about the process of making a documentary film

Washington Irving: Citizen of the World is a film-in-progress that studies Washington Irving's impact on early 19th century American literature. Irving’s popularity, his remarkable friendship with Charles Dickens, his role as ambassador to Spain, his impact on the restoration of The Alhambra Palace in Granada's southern Spain; and his life at Sunnyside will be covered in the film.

In this very special program, Karen Kelleher, the  film’s director/writer/producer will describe her experiences in creating this film, “Washington Irving Citizen of the World”.  She will discuss what needs to be done to complete the editing process.  She  will  share anecdotes about her experiences photographing and filming at The Alhambra Palace and talk about her  interviews with Washington Irving’s  descendants, Washington Dupont Irving III of Newport, Rhode Island;  and Elise Irving of New York City for the film. Ms.  Kelleher’s earlier film on Jacqueline Onassis, "Jackie Behind The Myth" premiered in 1999 on PBS.  Ms. Kelleher studied film writing at UCLA and received a BA in Creative Writing at Columbia University
