"The distinguishing feature throughout is the couple's caressing harmonies, which carry on the legacy of Johnny and June, Gram and Emmylou." –Maverick
Gifted singer-songwriter Sarah Lee Guthrie, joined by her equally talented husband Johnny Irion, join together with The Take Me To the River Children's Community Chorus for an all-ages family show at South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry, NY on Saturday, October 16th.
The evening will open with Sarah Lee and Johnny leading the the children's chorus - an ensemble of kids ages 6 to 13 founded in 2009 for a special concert with the legendary Pete Seeger - in performing selections from Pete's sing-along memoir, Where Have All The Flowers Gone. They'll also perform classics by Sarah Lee's grandfather Woody Guthrie, and soon-to-be classics by Sarah Lee from her award-winning 2010 children's album, Go Wagaloo, on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Produced by her husband Johnny Irion, Go Wagaloo features guest appearances by her dad Arlo, as well as by Pete Seeger, Tao Rodriguez Seeger, and a host of family and friends. The album includes three songs featuring lyrics by Woody Guthrie never before put to music and eight songs written by Sarah Lee and family. Go Waggaloo continues the Guthrie song-making tradition forged by Sarah's grandfather, Woody Guthrie.
After a short intermission, Sarah Lee and Johnny will return to feature material from their brand new grownup release Bright Examples, as well as material from Exploration (2005), and Folksong (2009), and more.
