The Star Island All-Stars is named after an informal pickup band composed of a group of friends on retreat at Star Island, located off the coast of New Hampshire. Most members of the group were also members of a Boston blues-funk-hip hop band called Neon Grandma, which had a devoted following in the mid-late '90s. The band, though short-lived, specialized in making a room full of people stand up and dance. The reunited band includes singer-songwriters Adrian Sicam and Kemp Harris, accompanied by guitarist Carl Sturken, bassist Theo Griffin, harmonica player Adam Oh, and drummer Jim Lucchese. Kemp Harris combines American roots, gospel, soul, and African folk. His live shows vary from solo performances to full-band shows. His new CD, “Edenton,” features The Holmes Brothers on backing vocals and was released in March 2007. Adrian Sicam, whose diverse influences range from the Beatles to Mel Torme and Al Jarreau, composes original song in jazz and rock. He released his highly acclaimed CD “Hey Stranger” in 2001. Carl Sturken is half of the Grammy Award winning writing/producing team of Sturken & Evans.
