Irvington Elementary Schoolers Celebrate Art

The visual art show was spearheaded by school art teachers Nina Rossi and Sandy Duffield.

Main Street School in Irvington recently was turned into an art gallery as dozens of works of art by K-5 students were placed on display for parents, faculty and community residents.

The May 19 visual art show was spearheaded by Art Department Chairperson and fourth- and fifth-grade art teacher Nina Rossi, as well as kindergarten through third-grade art teacher Sandy Duffield.

Some of the artwork was mounted on display boards that were generously donated through a PTSA grant, including still life chalk drawings of flowers created by first-grade students and abstract “Shades of Gray” paintings carefully done by third-grade students. Kindergarten students’ contributions, depictions of cities made using pieces of colorful construction paper, also were on display.

Fourth-grade contributions varied from drawings, to creative three-dimensional pieces that showcased students’ reflections on their Habits of Mind.

Fifth-graders’ structural representations of Mesoamerican architecture, which were created with visiting artist Janet Roseff, stood as three-dimensional models throughout the hallway. This effort was made possible through funding provided by the Irvington Education Foundation.
