Irvington Police Beat: 18-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Assault on Cop
Plus, two Shell gas station employees arrested for skimming

Voiding Scam at Shell Station
7:15 p.m.—The owner of Lambros Shell Center, located on 1 North Broadway, reported that he believed an employee was involved in falsifying business records to cover up his thieving from the business. Tausif Raza, a 25-year-old from Kearny Avenue in the Bronx, was charged with one count of falsifying business records in the first degree, an E-felony.

Reportedly, he would void out purchases that customers made and nick the value and the owner became suspicious after seeing so many voided purchases. The defendant was arrested that evening at 10 p.m. at police headquarters and confessed to the scheme. He returned to court on October 3rd at 9:30 a.m. and was released on his own recognizance. This investigation is ongoing. Police will be looking at records that date back further to check for more altered transactions. So far, Raza was found to have pocketed $50 on September 27th.

Lottery Ticket Skimming at Shell Station
2:15 p.m.—Lambros Shell Center’s owner signed a complaint against another employee for altering business transactions. Pankajbhai Rana, a 51-year-old resident of Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers, was arrested at 4:23 p.m. for falsifying business records in the first degree, an E-felony. He confessed to the charges. The defendant would ring up items for a little less than their worth, or tack fifty cents onto a customer’s bill. He used the proceeds to buy lottery tickets from the Shell. This investigation is ongoing, and police are looking back into older records. He returns to court later this month.
Raccoon in Distress
9:30 p.m.—A resident of Barbara Lane phoned police to report a raccoon in distress. She told police the raccoon had a jar lodged on its head. Police responded to the scene and notified Greenburgh Animal Control. Animal Control was not available. When police approached the raccoon, it ran up a tree. The call to animal control was canceled as the raccoon was no longer reachable. No further calls about the raccoon were received.

Teen Girl Arrested for Attempted Assault on Cop
9:26 a.m.—Police arrested Chawdhri Meriam, an 18-year-old resident of Round Abend Road in Tarrytown. The arrest is in relation to an incident that took place on September 22. That morning, police received a call from the Irvington High School custodian. She’d reported seeing someone try to break into the school. She gave a description to officers. Officers responded to the scene and did not locate anyone at the school. Five minutes later, they located a woman matching the custodian’s description on North Broadway.
The defendant was being uncooperative and acting disorderly in the street. She was screaming and became abusive to an officer. The defendant was charged with attempted assault on a police officer in the second degree, an E-felony, resisting arrest, an A misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation. She was taken into police custody and brought to the station. Upon arrival, she sought medical treatment. After her medical treatment was over, she surrendered herself to police. She was issued a court appearance ticket for October 17, and was released on her own recognizance.
