Kor Likely to Be Named Assistant Superintendent in Irvington

There has been an administrative shake-up in the Irvington schools.

Read the following announcement from Superintendent Kristopher Harrison below:

Dear Colleagues:

As we look forward to a successful close to the current school year and begin to prepare for 2012-2013 school, I can’t begin to communicate my enthusiasm to join you in crafting outstanding educational experiences for the children in our charge.  Together, we will collaborate on a mission that will enhance the quality of experiences we afford our students while preparing them for the most successful future possible.   It is evident that our schools continue to flourish, and I look forward to the important work that we will share to raise the bar on student achievement.  In the years ahead we will face many new, exciting challenges such as the implementation of APPR and the Common Core. I welcome these new challenges as they will serve as additional motivation for us to strive to make the Irvington Schools the very best in New York.

To guide us into our future, I am pleased to announce that at the Board of Education meeting on June 5, Administration will recommend the addition of two dynamic leaders who will assist us on our journey to excellence.

First, Dr. Roelle and I will recommend that the Board of Education appoint Dr. Raina Kor to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Instruction and Human Resources.  Following an extensive search, it was evident that Dr. Kor’s experience as an educator and school leader has prepared her well to lead the District’s instructional program, while providing necessary oversight of Human Resources.

In this capacity, she will work closely with the teaching staff and administrative team to guide our instructional practices to meet every student and teacher’s needs through the implementation of a rigorous and enriching 21st century curriculum. She will also focus on providing high-quality human resources that will better serve the District and its employees.  I am confident that Dr. Kor will provide outstanding leadership and will serve the broader school community well.

Immediately following Dr. Kor’s appointment, she and the District team will initiate a search to identify her successor (an Interim Principal) at Main Street School.  This action will be addressed urgently and with extreme care to ensure that the entire school community’s needs are met and to provide for an effective opening to the school year. Additionally, Dr. Kor will be available to provide all necessary guidance and assistance during the transition.  Be assured that the identification of the ideal candidate will be the top priority for the Administration and Board heading into the summer.

Also, at the June 5th Board of Education meeting, District administration will recommend the appointment of Deborah Scherle-Mariniello to serve as an Assistant Principal at Irvington High School and Dows Lane Elementary School.  Ms. Scherle-Mariniello brings with her years of instructional experience at both the elementary and middle school levels and has performed impressively as a leader while serving as a Department Chairperson and New Staff Coordinator in an area school district.  Her strong background coupled with a deep knowledge base and passion for education will quickly prove to be an asset to both school communities.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kor on her new leadership role in the District and welcoming Ms. Scherle-Marineillo to our team.

Sincerely,

Kristopher Harrison
