Local Engineer Opens Cell Phone Repair Shop in Hastings

Longtime Hastings resident Antonio Ho says he can repair any kind of cellular phone for anywhere between $15 and $150 dollars.

"Recently a customer called and said his daughter dropped her phone into water; they tried to dry it out in rice, but then it started smoking," Ho said. "I was able to repair it."

An electrical engineer by trade, Ho has owned similar repair shops in Elmsford and Port Chester. Years ago, he operated out of the same space he's in now in Hastings as a mortgage broker.

Ho sells phones without contracts, refurbishes phones, repairs them and trades old phones in for newer models. He also offers deals on pre-paid phone services. 

"I tell people not to bother fixing their phones if repairs cost more than $150," he said. "Unless, of course, it's a smart phone that would cost $500 to replace."

Smartech & Beyond is open at 547 Warburton Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And, since Ho lives in Hastings, he will open up after hours for cell phone emergencies. (But he asks that customers not call between 6 and 7 p.m. when he and his family eat dinner).
