Rivertowns Biz Snippets: Roses and Chocolate—the Consummate Valentine's Gift
Today's feature is on Irvington's Sunnyside Flower Shop and their vast array of Valentine's Day gift ideas. For the rest of the week, our features will focus on Valentine's Day. Have an idea for a V-day snippet?
At owner Susan (Willo) Willoughby's mantra is that you don't have to spend a ton to get a fantastic Valentine's Day gift for your loved one.
From single roses to elaborate bouquets of different-colored roses and other flowers, customers can tailor their Valentine's Day gifts to what they think the recipients will love...and what they're able to afford.
"As far as roses go, we have an enormous array of colors," Wilow said, rattling off a list that included: red, pink, yellow, cream, peach, and orange.

And, thinking outside the ordinary bouquet, you can even order flowers in tea pots and other decorative containers.
What's unique about Sunnyside, though, is that Willo has chosen to sell hand-made treats by local chocolatiers , to complete the traditional "flowers and candy" Valentine's Day gift.

But besides roses, you can order tulips (employee Mary Zimmermann's favorite) or orchids, which Willo described as "lovely."
Sunnyside Flower Shop will deliver orders on Valentine's Day for a nominal fee; $6 within Irvington and still under $10 in the other Rivertowns.
She suggests that customers reserve their arrangements early so that none of their favorites are out of stock.
The store will be open this Sunday—which is very unusual—from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate the high volume of customers wishing to make Valentine's Day orders.
You can also call in orders to 914-591-7377.
"I always say that you don't have to spend an astronomical amount to get a fantastic bouquet of flowers," Willo said. "After all, the day is about showing a loved one that you care—not spending money."
