Steven G. Corbett Named Assistant Principal at Irvington High School

Steven G. Corbett, formerly founding principal of East Harlem Scholars Academy II, has been named assistant principal at Irvington High School, district officials announced.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Corbett to our school,” said Principal David Cohen in a statement. “His prior leadership positions and experiences will bring a new perspective to our instructional practices, support our efforts to enhance student life, as well as further strengthen our professional learning community.”

During his time at East Harlem, Corbett developed strategies to assist in building enrollment at the new facility, as well as managed budgets, established policies for a strong school culture and provided professional development to his staff. Most notably, the school gained recognition for its impact on student learning and community-building, as well as for placing in the top 3 percent of all schools citywide in teacher and parent satisfaction.

Currently in his 10th year as an educator, Corbett holds a Master of Science in school building leadership and a Master of Arts in social studies/adolescent education. He is a doctoral candidate at Northeastern University with expected graduation in January 2016.

“My career has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge of school culture and behavior, instructional practices, scheduling, special education as well as observation and evaluation,” said Corbett. “I look forward to collaborating in these areas with my new peers at Irvington High School. I’m excited to be part of such a great district and look forward to immersing myself in the numerous high school activities with staff and students.”
